Hanan Karabela would rather stab a problem from the shadows than negotiate with one. But when her mother falls ill, she assumes the role of diplomat and travels in her mother’s stead to finalize a peace treaty between her nation, the barbarians, and the antagonistic nation of warlords that frequently raids them both.  

As attempts to sabotage the treaty’s progress unfold, Hanan discovers that discontent has rooted itself deep in the warlord’s camp. And it doesn’t stop with the treaty. A war-hungry usurper is ready to take advantage of the discord and arranging for Hanan to take the blame of the warlord’s assassination.

Hanan is offered a choice: ally herself with the usurper, or die in defiance of his commands and allow the three nations to slip into all-out war.
